I don't mean to take over your post with hate on the yota, but it's my first comment about it.
I feel like they put a new face and some fender flares on it.
Is the platform fully updated?

Looks more coyote brown than olive drab.

Looks much, much better without that wretched front splitter. The color doesn't look bad, But the picture looks off color so I don't actually know how it would look in person or with a white background.

That ain't olive drab. Olives are green, hence olive drab is green.
Having said that, I concur.

Looks like they added the bed crease thing. Much better.

agreed much better (the main grill could be pulled back a bit. It juts out and looks strange). This and the little GM twins just look right. Was looking at a loaded Z71 Colorado earlier, that is a perfect sized truck, as this is as well.

Way better than the titan, who's front end is 60% headlight now.

looks aside (I like the GM twins better) i'm just curious as to whether it's going to compete. the same old platform I don't think it competes.

Talking from someone who's driven them both (tacoma tester and canyorado), they says it beats the canyorado.

The Cabin looks like the one from 2007. Looks like a new nose and rear end and that's all.

That's why i'm curious about the platform. This seems to look like more of a refresh than an "all new"

If it is in fact the last gens cab, the Taco will be a bit smaller.

I just want to know the specs of the new 3.5 V6, and more importantly the torque curve.

no problems here, the cab was fine.

I would be shocked if it wasn't the 2GR FSE with updated cam timing provided by VVT-Ie

Sort of, it's the Atkinson cycle 2GR-XE engine out of the RX450H, with direct and port injection.

No, I the FXE head uses the standard VVT-i head with hydraulic cam phasing with different cams to achieve an Atkinson effect, but it doesn't have the latitude to do Otto and Atkinson on the same. The VVT-ie is electric cam phasing and has the latitude to do both cycles. The 8AR-FTS uses it, as do a few others. my guess is that they just took the FSE engine and added in the electric cam phasing. I don't know why people are complaining about it being Atkinson cycle capable, it just means the cam timing has more latitude to run in the mode that best suits the load and conditions, it can still time up to meet power and torque needs.

okay, so change all my VVT-iE to VVT-iW, I got it mixed up. either way, its electric cam phasing.

According to the FP(of course, not always the most reliable) it is actually an Atkinson cycle engine. It may not be the FXE, but it apparently is an Atkinson cycle engine. http://truckyeah.jalopnik.com/the-2016-toyot…
Though, I'm pretty sure the Taco did in fact have an engine before.

Nah, no way its going to be Atkinson cycle only, its definitely a dual phase system. Atkinson cycle only makes no sense in a car without an auxiliary boost system as in a miller cycle or electric torque fill. The VVT-iW system is making its way to Toyota's as well as lexus, I suspect it will eventually all be this method.

Ah, well either way, it looks like a nice future 4Runner replacement for daily driver duties.

yeah, the 2GR-FSE with VVT-iW would be a great engine. my guess is 305 hp, mid 280 for torque with peak at or below 4 grand. if you listen to that engine in the Lexus GS350 and then in listen to the Tacoma teaser they sure sound alike.
